News Breaks | | | | January 31, 2013 | | 06:12 EDT |  | BAYRY | France to halt sales of Bayer's acne drug and its generics, WSJ reports France's National Agency for the Safety of Drugs and Health Products is taking steps to stop sales of an acne treatment made by Bayer (BAYRY) that is widely used as a contraceptive, after the drug was linked to four deaths over the past 25 years, reports the Wall Street Journal. The hormonal treatment Diane 35, along with its generic equivalents, are used by more than 300,000 women in France. In this trial, patients receiving EYLEA at an initial dose of 2 milligrams, followed by treatment on an as-needed basis, had a mean improvement in best-corrected visual acuity from baseline at week 24 of 12.1 letters, compared to a loss of 2.0 letters in patients receiving sham injections.
