| theflyonthewall.com: | Earnings Preview: Baxter's Q4 may hinge on IVIG supply, demand status | | Baxter International (BAX) is expected to report Q4 earnings before the market open on Thursday, January 28, with a conference call scheduled for 8:30am ET. The consensus estimate is $1.03 for EPS and $3.38B for revenue, according to First Call. On October 15, Baxter reaffirmed its Q4 EPS guidance of $1.02 to $1.04 vs. consensus of $1.04 on sales growth of 7% to 8%. On its Q3 conference call the company said it sees strong demand and pricing across its plasma protein portfolio. Another positive for its Q4 results may be the fact that the company did not recognize H1N1 vaccine revenue in Q3. Possible negatives for this quarter could come from a shift in demand for intravenous immunolglobulin or IVIG for 2010. On December 4, Soleil Securities said it's "nervous" about intravenous immunolglobulin or IVIG, supply, demand fundamentals heading into 2010. The firm said IVIG levels are moving higher and has negative implications for Baxter (BAX) and Talecris Bio (TLCR). On January 27, Piper Jaffray mentioned Baxter positively ahead of Q4 results. Piper thinks investors will view Baxter's Q4 results and 2010 guidance positively, and would be a buyer of the stock ahead of the report.
