Deutsche Bank noted that the planned spin-off of BWX Technologies (BWXT) from Babcock & Wilcox (BWC) is scheduled to be completed this week on July 1, stating that it believes the spun off company is likely to attract the attention of strategic players such as Huntington Ingalls (HII) and General Dynamics (GD). The firm thinks the potential M&A fit looks "most striking" for Huntington and estimates that a deal multiple could reach 10-11X the about $300M in EBITDA at BWX Technologies, which would likely be "worth the stretch" for the shipbuilder.

BAE Systems (BAESY) has awarded Drone Aviation Holding's wholly owned subsidiary, Drone Aviation Corp., an order for parts and services related to enhancing and supporting two WASP aerostat systems owned and operated by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Battle Lab for upcoming Department of Defense exercises. The upgrades and services are designed to integrate specialized wireless electronics, advanced optics and a communications package provided by L-3 Communication (LLL). Under the terms of an agreement between DAC and L-3 CS-West, a working group has commenced on a technical integration plan that includes integrating new technologies into the WASP and jointly marketing the integrated solution. The enhanced WASP systems and components are expected to be delivered to the U.S. Army in July.

Regarding the appointment of Dennis Muilenburg as Boeing CEO, outgoing CEO James McNerney says, "in many ways, there's not going to be a change." Muilenburg noted that the current defense market is more "challenging," and that the company needs to deliver on its 777 bridge program. Muilenburg added that the company's backlog remains "solid." The Boeing board has elected Dennis Muilenburg as the company's CEO, succeeding W. James McNerney, Jr., who held the position for the past 10 years. Muilenburg, who has served as Boeing president and COO since 2013, becomes president and CEO on July 1. McNerney, who joined Boeing's board in 2001, continues as its chairman. To ensure a smooth transition of his CEO responsibilities to Muilenburg, he will continue working as a company employee until retiring at the end of February 2016.

Aerojet Rocketdyne (AJRD) recently was awarded a contract from Lockheed Martin (LMT) to deliver XR-5 Hall Effect and MR-510 Arcjet electric propulsion subsystems, as well as monopropellant rocket engines for the modernized A2100 satellite. The contract is for delivery of the flight propulsion subsystems aboard two modernized A2100 satellites that Arabsat recently ordered from Lockheed Martin.
