Piper Jaffray said it expects shares of Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA) to open significantly higher tomorrow after an FDA panel voted 18 to 4 to approve lorcaserin for the treatment of obesity. The firm expects the company's partner Eisai to launch the drug in the U.S. this year and sees blockbuster potential. Piper views Athersys (ATHX) as a derivative play on Arena's positive FDA panel since the company is developing preclinical 5HT2c agonists that have been designed to be even more specific to 5HT2c than lorcaserin. |
