Susan Lyne, Vice Chairman of Gilt and AOL board member, has been appointed to run AOLís portfolio of brands that serve over 100 million consumers globally. Lyneís appointment is part of AOLís continued efforts to streamline its operations and give its business unit leaders more autonomy and accountability. AOL has three business units ĖThe Membership Group, which consists of offerings that serve AOL account holders, AOL Networks, which consists of AOL's offerings to publishers and advertisers utilizing AOLís third-party advertising network, and the Brand Group, which consists of AOL's portfolio of distinct and unique content brands. All three business units were overseen by AOLís Chief Operating Officer, Arthur ďArtieĒ Minson, who will stay with the company for a transition period.

09:24 EDTAOLVringo intends to seek en banc review of decision in I/P Engine case
Vringo (VRNG) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary I/P Engine, Inc. intends to file a petition with the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit seeking en banc review of the split appellate decision in its case against AOL (AOL), Google (GOOG) et al. that issued on August 15 and reversed the judgment of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Under the Federal Circuit's rules, I/P Engine's petition for en banc review is due on September 15. I/P Engine has filed an unopposed motion seeking a 30-day extension, which would make its petition due October 15. Upon receiving the requested extension, I/P Engine may file the petition on or anytime prior to October 15.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit that patents claims asserted by I/P Engine, a unit of Vringo (VRNG), are invalid for obviousness and reversed a lower court's ruling in the company's favor. The patents were asserted in a suit against Google (GOOG) and Aol (AOL), IAC Interactive (IACI) and Gannett (GCI). Vringo shares dropped nearly 11% following the posting of the appeal court ruling.
