Humana posted on its website a December 27, 2012 pharmacy policy coverage for Amarin's omega]3 fatty acid agent Vascepa. The insurer said Vascepa may be considered medically necessary when the following criteria are met: The member must be utilizing Vascepa for treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemia and the member must have documentation of previous treatment, intolerance, or contraindication to Lovaza and one of either Fibrate or Nicotinic acid. Humana added that Vascepa will be approved in plan year durations or as determined through clinical review. Reference Link

Reports Q1 revenue $2.34M, consensus $5.2M. Amarin said its direct sales force, consisting of approximately 275 sales professionals, made sales calls to clinicians for two months in Q1. Amarin reports that, since launch, access to clinicians has been good, and that it has yet to hear any significant negative reaction to the efficacy or safety profile of Vascepa. Amarin said it continues to make significant progress in its effort to expand patent protection for Vascepa and now has 22 patents issued or allowed in the United States with over 30 additional U.S. patent applications being prosecuted.
