12:44 EDTSSNLF, AMAT, INTC, TSM, ASMLArms merchants Applied Materials, ASML should prosper, Barron's says
If investors can get past the coming uncertainty in chip spending, this very intense battle for the future of chips bodes very well for the arms merchants, Barron's Technology Trader columnist Tiernan Ray contends. Some of the biggest suppliers of equipment used to make chips, such as Applied Materials (AMAT) and ASML Holding (ASML), have seen their multiples expand as customers opened their wallets wide this year to fund an arms race in chip technology. A lot will depend on what investors hear in the next few weeks from the biggest chip makers, Intel (INTC), Samsung Electronics (SSNLF), and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM), regarding spending plans.
