Alcatel-Lucent’s Board of Directors (ALU) announced the appointment of Michel Combes as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1. Combes will also join the company’s Board of Directors, subject to the approval of shareholders at the Alcatel-Lucent annual general meeting on May 7. Combes was Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Europe and a Board member of Vodafone PLC (VOD). During his career, he has held the positions of Chairman and CEO of TDF as well as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Vice President of France Telecom (FTE).

Nokia (NOK) introduced the Nokia Lumia 925, which introduces a metal design and includes the most advanced lens technology and next generation imaging software for clearer, sharper pictures and video, including the best low light images. The Nokia Lumia 925 also introduces the new Nokia Smart Camera mode, coming as an update to all Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones. The Lumia 925 is being introduced into Europe with Vodafone (VOD), along with other operator and retail partners. In addition to Europe, the Nokia Lumia 925 will be introduced into the US by T-Mobile (TMUS) and into China by China Mobile (CHL) and China Unicom (CHU). Sales are expected to start in the U.K., Germany, Italy, Spain and China in June, followed by the U.S. and a number of other markets.

Verizon (VZ) disclosed in a regulatory filing that on May 9, the board of representatives of Verizon Wireless declared distributions to its owners in the aggregate amount of $7B, payable on June 25 in proportion to their respective partnership interests on the date of such distribution. Based on current ownership interests in Verizon Wireless, Verizon will receive cash payments aggregating $3.85B and Vodafone (VOD) will receive cash payments aggregating $3.15B.
