| theflyonthewall.com: | Albemarle climbs on better than expected results, optimistic outlook | | Chemical developer Albemarle (ALB) reported Q4 EPS of 64c ex charges and tax benefits, compared with analysts' consensus estimate of 57c. Including restructuring charges and tax benefits, the company's EPS came in at 68c. The company's revenue was also higher than expected. Albemarle said that it believes it can significantly increase its EPS in 2010. The chemical developer said it did not see the usual fall-off in demand at the end of Q4, although it added that its volume gains decelerated in Q4. However, the company added that it expects solid top and bottom line growth in its Polymer business this year, as well as strong revenue and profit surges in its Catalyst unit. Albemarle's alternative fuels technology unit should begin to contribute meaningfully to earnings this year, the company added. Meanwhile, the company predicts that its EPS could reach $4+ per share by 2012. In mid-afternoon trading, Albemarle gained $1.74, or 4.77%, to $38.24. :theflyonthewall.com |
