09:52 EDTT, AKAMAkamai jumps after announcing partnership with AT&T
Internet content delivery company Akamai (AKAM) is rallying after it announced an alliance with AT&T (T) earlier today. Under the deal, Akamai's content delivery platform will be combined with AT&T's IP network to deliver content delivery and telecom services to companies. Specifically, Akamai's servers will be placed at the edge of AT&T's IP network and in AT&T facilities throughout the United States, the companies said. With the deployment of Akamai's infrastructure within AT&T's network infrastructure, end customers are expected to benefit from more efficient content routing and better delivery of digital content, video and Web applications, AT&T and Akamai believe. The companies will initially focus their efforts in North America, but plan to expand globally within 12 months. No financial details of the deal were disclosed. In early trading, Akamai rose $3.13, or 8.82%, to $38.63.

12:52 EDTAKAMAkamai retreats after Wells cuts rating on traffic trends
Shares of Akamai (AKAM) are falling after Wells Fargo downgraded the stock to Market Perform from Outperform, saying its research indicates the company's traffic has been moderating in recent weeks. Akamai provides services for the delivery of content over the Internet. WHAT'S NEW: The amount of video and audio streaming being handled by Akamai has slowed during the first two weeks of October when compared with the third quarter, Wells Fargo wrote in a note to investors today. Although Akamai's revenue growth does not correlate directly with changes in the traffic it handles, traffic trends have provided indications about the direction of the company's revenue growth in the past, the firm stated. Additionally, Akamai is facing tough comparisons this quarter, and its international business will be hurt by the strong dollar, the firm contended. Wells predicted the company's 2014 and 2015 earnings would miss expectations and cut its price target range on the name to $57-$61 from $70-$75. OTHERS TO WATCH: Limelight Networks (LLNW) and Level 3 Communications (LVLT) also provide Internet content delivery services. PRICE ACTION: In early afternoon trading, Akamai fell 3% to $53.

06:39 EDTAKAMAkamai warns of UPnP devices used in DDoS attacks
Akamai Technologies released, through the company's Prolexic Security Engineering & Response Team, or PLXsert, a new cybersecurity threat advisory. The advisory alerts the security community, device vendors, Internet service providers and enterprises to the risk of massive distributed denial of service, or DDoS, attacks involving Universal Plug and Play, or UPnP, devices. PLXsert has observed the use of a new reflection and amplification DDoS attack that deliberately misuses communications protocols that come enabled on millions of home and office devices, including routers, media servers, web cams, smart TVs and printers. The protocols allow devices to discover each other on a network, establish communication and coordinate activities. DDoS attackers have been abusing these protocols on Internet-exposed devices to launch attacks that generate floods of traffic and cause website and network outages at enterprise targets.
