The California Public Utilities Commission, or CPUC, set the revenue amount needed for Pacific Gas and Electric Company to provide safe and reliable electric and natural gas service for 2014-2016, cutting the amount requested by $700M. PG&E requested a 17.5% increase, or $1.16B, over the currently approved revenue requirement for 2014-2016. The CPUC reduced PG&Es revenue increase request by $700M, authorizing an increase of $460M, which is an increase of 6.9% over the currently authorized revenue requirement. The decision approved attrition increases of 4.57% for 2015 and 5% for 2016. PG&E requested attrition increases of 5.9% for 2015 and 6.1% for 2016, CPUC noted.

Shares of storage systems provider NetApp (NTAP) are advancing after the company posted better than expected first quarter results and received positive analyst commentary. WHAT'S NEW: Last night, NetApp reported Q1 adjusted earnings per share of 60c and revenue of $1.49B, beating analysts' consensus estimates of 57c and $1.47B, respectively. Q1 adjusted gross margin was 64.3%. WHAT'S NOTABLE: NetApp forecast second quarter adjusted EPS of 66c-71c and revenue of $1.49B-$1.59B, compared to consensus of 69c and $1.53B, respectively. For fiscal 2015, the company sees EPS growth just under 10% and revenue growth in the mid-single digits. FY15 adjusted gross margin is seen at 63%-64%. On NetApp's Q1 conference call, management said it was seeing a rebound in enterprise spending in the U.S. ANALYST REACTION: This morning, analyst commentary was overwhelmingly positive. Needham upgraded NetApp to Buy from Hold following its strong Q1 report, citing better enterprise spending. Their price target was $49. Two firms, Piper Jaffray and Brean Capital, raised their respective price targets on NetApp and Pacific Crest said NetApp is "'undervalued and underappreciated," noting that the company's Q1 results included 13% earnings growth year-over-year. PRICE ACTION: In late morning trading, NetApp rose $1.47, or 3.7%, to $40.77 on heavy trading volume. Despite today's advance, the stock is down approximately 4% over the past 12 months. OTHERS TO WATCH: Other companies in the storage space include: EMC (EMC), Dot Hill Systems (HILL) and Nimble Storage (NMBL).

08:31 EDTUPLUltra Petroleum announces Pinedale acquisition for $925M
Ultra Petroleum announced that the company has signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire all Pinedale field properties from SWEPI, LP, an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell, in exchange for a portion of Ultra's Marcellus Shale properties and cash consideration of $925M. Ultra Petroleum expects to finance the acquisition through the issuance of new debt at the subsidiary and parent level. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter with an effective date of April 1. Ultra Petroleum is acquiring Shell's interest in the Pinedale field, which is currently producing approximately 189M cubic feet equivalent per day of natural gas and condensate. As a result of the transaction, Ultra Petroleum will operate approximately 1,577 gross wells, or about 68% of the Pinedale field. In exchange, Shell will receive $925M and approximately 155,000 net acres in the Marcellus Shale which is primarily located in Tioga and Potter counties. Shell will obtain approximately 100 MMcfe per day of natural gas production.

Donaldson Company announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Donaldson Europe BVBA UAE Branch, has entered into an agreement to acquire Northern Technical L.L.C., a manufacturer of gas turbine inlet air filtration systems and replacement filters. The acquisition is expected to close in September, subject to normal closing conditions. Other terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
