Affymetrix and University of Bristol, Bristol, UK, announced that they have collaboratively designed a wheat genotyping array and analyzed data from experiments as part of an effort to understand wheat genetics and breeding with a goal of ensuring guaranteed sustainable production. Axiom Wheat Genotyping Array, consisting of 817,000 markers, was designed for the University of Bristol as part of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, or BBSRC-funded Wheat Improvement Strategic Program, or WISP. The design of Axiom Wheat Array is unique because it includes functional and positional annotation information for a variety of wheat species. The SNPs on Axiom Wheat Array include markers from hexaploid landraces and those from the synthetic and ancestral lines exhibiting different ploidy levels.

Affymetrix announced that Founder and Chairman, Stephen Fodor will retire from the company’s board effective January 30, 2015. The board elected Jami Nachtsheim as Chairwoman of the company’s board, succeeding Fodor. Nachtsheim has served as a director of the company since 2010 and the company’s lead independent director since 2013.
