American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) is expected to report Q1 earnings before the market open on Wednesday, May 23 with a conference call scheduled for 9:00 am ET. Analysts are looking for EPS of 20c on revenue of $719.99M. The consensus range is 18c-25c for EPS and $718M-$741.6M for revenue, according to First Call. In early May, the retailer raised its Q1 EPS view to 18c-20c from 8c-10c, and the company said net sales for Q1 increased 18% to $719M. Same-store sales for the quarter increased 17% including sales from AEO direct. At the same time, American Eagle forecast FY12 EPS $1.06-$1.12, consensus $1.19, with SSS growth in the low-to-mid single digit range. The company recently said that CFO Joan Hilson would step down and that a search for a successor is currently under way. American Eagle also announced plans to exit its children's business, 77kids, which includes 22 stores and an online business. The company sees charges associated with the disposition of 77kids to be taken primarily in Q2 and Q3, which will be disclosed as plans are finalized. Brean Murray upgraded American Eagle ahead of the Q1 earnings report to Buy from Hold given new CEO Robert Hanson's plans to turnaround the company. The analyst is impressed with Hanson's initial actions that include closure of its 77kids operations and the departure of their CFO. Shares were also upgraded to Buy from Hold at Stifel Nicolaus on May 2, to Outperform from Neutral at Wedbush on May 1, and RBC Capital increased its target on the stock to $26 from $17 after preannouncing higher than expected Q1 EPS. :theflyonthewall.com
