10:54 EDTAEO, URBN, ARO, ANFAmerican Eagle, Urban Outfitters rally following upgrade
Teen retailers American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) and Urban Outfitters (URBN) are rising this morning after both were upgraded to Buy from Hold at Jefferies. WHAT'S NOTABLE: Jefferies said American Eagle and Urban Outfitters are its "top two" picks among specialty store retailers for this year. At American Eagle, Jefferies believes the company's management team is well-prepared to restore brand momentum, as well as drive margin and earnings recovery against easy comparisons. The firm sees American Eagle as "the most relevant" teen brand. As for Urban Outfitters, Jefferies upgraded the stock due to margin expansion potential and sees "significant" potential across its channels, especially direct-to-consumer. The firm has a $19 price target on American Eagle and a $54 price target on Urban Outfitters. OTHERS TO WATCH: Also this morning, Jefferies downgraded teen retailers Aeropostale (ARO) and Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) to Hold from Buy. For Aeropostale, Jefferies cited the company's longer than expected turnaround. The firm noted increasing competition and a lack of management succession plan in its downgrade of Abercrombie. PRICE ACTION: In mid-morning trading, American Eagle was up about 3% to $14.82, while Urban Outfitters rose nearly 4% to $38.51. Meanwhile, Aeropostale was down about 1% and Abercrombie & Fitch fell about 1.5%.
