News Breaks August 10, 2012 12:31 EDT AEO, ANF American Eagle moves lower as jeans price war heats up American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) is declining after the company announced that it was selling all of its blue jeans for under $30. The retailer's move comes after Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) said that it would sell all of its jeans for $39 for one week. Meanwhile, American Eagle disclosed in a regulatory filing last night that it had sold its 77kids unit for just 65% of the cost of the unit's inventory. American Eagle said it expects to incur an after-tax loss of about $35M on the deal. That figure includes $19M of asset impairments, inventory write-downs and severance, as well as $6M of support payments to the purchaser, and $10M of operational costs. The company had previously estimated that it would lose $35M-$50M on the deal. In early afternoon trading, American Eagle dropped $1.17, or 5.45%, to $20.31, while Abercrombie & Fitch shares dropped 1.65% to $31.68.
