Spectra Energy announced that the board of directors has elected Gregory L. Ebel to serve as chair of the board of directors. Ebel, who has been president and CEO since January 2009, replaces William T. Esrey who is retiring after serving as chair for the past five years. The company also announced that F. Anthony Comper has been elected as independent lead director. Comper, originally elected to the board in 2007, is the former chair and retired president and CEO of BMO Financial Group and will serve as a member of Spectra Energy's corporate governance and audit committees. Both of these appointments will be effective immediately.

Enterprise Products Partners announced that the board of directors of its general partner declared an increase in the quarterly cash distribution rate paid to partners to 71c per common unit, or $2.84 per unit on an annualized basis. The quarterly distribution will be paid on Wednesday, May 7 to unitholders of record as of the close of business on Wednesday, April 30. This distribution, which represents a 6.0% increase over the 67 per unit distribution declared with respect to the Q1 of FY13, is the 48th distribution increase since Enterprise’s initial public offering in 1998 and the 39th consecutive quarterly increase.

Wells Fargo significantly raised its 2014 EPS estimates for Alon USA (ALJ), PBF Energy (PBF), Valero (VLO), and Western Refining (WNR) . The firm thinks that the sector is benefiting from better crack spreads and refining utilization so far in Q2, while U.S. exports of refined products jumped 21% year-over-year last quarter. Wells keeps Outperform ratings on PBF and Valero, and Market Perform ratings on Alon USA and Western Refining.
