News Breaks | | | | July 29, 2012 | | 10:23 EDT | | ABT | Abbott Laboratories CEO Miles White is just getting started, Barron's says Abbott Laboratories' (ABT) revenue has grown fourfold on CEO Mike White's watch. EPS are up almost as much, to a projected $5.05 this year, quite a feat in an industry in which mergers have driven revenue growth but diluted EPS, Barron's contends. White's perseverance has paid off for shareholders. Since he took over as CEO, Abbott's shares have risen an average of 5.3% annually with dividends, compared with 2.6% for the S&P's 500 and 1.5% for the S&P 500 Pharmaceuticals index. Since the announcement of the proprietary drug business spin-off in October 2011, the shares are up 24%. Cowen's Ian Sanderson thinks the combined companies are worth as much as $67 a share. Longer-term, Abbott's revenue could increase at a substantially faster clip. Sales of nutritionals alone, the company Sanderson said, could climb to nearly $10B in 2015 from $6B currently, driven by growth in emerging markets. Reference Link | |
