| 12:44 EDT | | LULU, NPSP, ABC, EA, CAH, LSCC, WAG | On The Fly: Midday Wrap Stocks on Wall Street were lower at midday as ongoing fear about the situation in Europe trumped another sign that the housing picture in the U.S. continues to improve. The averages, which opened in positive ground and spent much of the morning there, weakened noticeably and turned negative in concert with a slide in the euro versus the dollar. The forex move may have been prompted by headlines that Cyprus' ruling party plans to abstain from voting on a controversial bailout plan and the nation's finance minister has resigned... ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., housing starts climbed 0.8% from the prior month to a 917K rate in February. Building permits rose by 4.6% to a 946K rate, which was significantly ahead of the consensus forecast. In Europe, ongoing fears about how the situation in Cyprus will play out, including renewed worries that the nation will default or be forced to leave the eurozone, sent the euro currency to a three month low against the U.S. dollar... COMPANY NEWS: Walgreen (WAG) reported earnings that beat expectations and revenue a bit below consensus, but also agreed to a long-term partnership with AmerisourceBergen (ABC). Walgreen, which is granted the right to buy a stake in AmerisourceBergen as part of the deal, rose nearly 5%, while AmerisourceBergen advanced over 5%. However, Cardinal Health (CAH), which was the incumbent at Walgreen and will be losing the business when its contract expires, declined 7%... MAJOR MOVERS: Among the notable gainers were NPS Pharmaceuticals (NPSP), up 8% after revising its agreements regarding a drug with partner Takeda, and Lattice Semiconductor (LSCC), which rose 6% after increasing its guidance for quarterly revenue growth. Among the noteworthy losers was Electronic Arts (EA), which fell 8% after its CEO resigned and the company warned it will likely come in below or near the bottom of its prior guidance. Also lower after a revenue warning were shares of lululemon (LULU), which slid over 5% after the company said a shortage of certain yoga pants will stop it from hitting its previous quarterly goals... INDICES: Near midday, the Dow was down 25.09, or 0.17%, to 14,426.97; the Nasdaq was down 14.81, or 0.46%, to 3,222.78; and the S&P 500 was down 6.80, or 0.44%, to 1,545.30. |

| 08:12 EDT | | NPSP | NPS announces initial findings from PARADOX study NPS Pharmaceuticals yesterday presented initial findings from PARADOX, which is believed to be the largest and most comprehensive collection of research to date analyzing the burden of illness for hypoparathyroidism. Findings from 374 patients in PARADOX, which NPS conducted in partnership with the Mayo Clinic and the Hypoparathyroidism Association, reveal that patients with hypoparathyroidism experience an average of 16 of the 38 physical, emotional and cognitive symptoms cited, some of which were reported for the first time in this landmark assessment. Ninety-nine percent of patients with this rare, complex endocrine disorder experience multiple symptoms despite taking medications, such as calcium and vitamin D. Further, 69% of patients with hypoparathyroidism experience serious comorbid conditions, including heart arrhythmias and kidney stones. The findings were presented at ENDO 2013. |
