Alcoa’s (AA) earnings report will unofficially kick off the Q3 earnings season on Tuesday, October 9 after the market close, with a conference call scheduled for 5:00 pm ET. Analysts are looking for EPS of 1c on revenue of $5.57B. The consensus range is (10c)-11c for EPS, and $5.29B-$5.8B for revenue, according to First Call. Alcoa posted mixed results in Q2, matching EPS and beating revenue estimates. Management projected stable demand for aluminum and reaffirmed its forecast for global aluminum demand growth of 7% in 2012, on top of the 10% growth seen in 2011. CEO Klaus Kleinfeld noted that despite the fact that aluminum prices were down, the fundamentals of the aluminum market remained sound with strong demand and tight supply. On October 1, the company said that as a result of the EPA’s issuance of the Proposed Remedial Action Plan, or PRAP, for the Grasse River, it expects to record an associated after-tax charge of approximately $85M, or 8c per share in its Q3 results. Recent sentiment on Alcoa has been decidedly negative over the past three months, with at least three firms downgrading the shares. Despite this, the stock has traded modestly higher since Q2 results were released. It made a 52-week low of $7.96 in late July, and has climbed approximately 15% since then. | |
