News Breaks | | | | January 9, 2013 | | 11:38 EDT |  | AAPL, GOOG, SSNLF | Agencies say bans based on standard patents should be rare, Reuters reports Companies should be able to obtain sales bans based on infringements of standard-essential patents only in rare, specific cases, the Justice Department and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said in a joint policy statement, Reuters reported last night. The U.S. International Trade Commission should consider the public interest before ordering such bans, the agencies stated. Google (GOOG) and Samsung (SSNLF) have sought to ban sales of Apple (AAPL) products due to alleged infringements by Apple of standard essential patents. Reference Link | |
