Amazon.com (AMZN) plans to boost its full-time payroll at Lab126, the hardware unit that developed the Kindle and other consumer electronics devices, by at least 27% over the next five years, reported Reuters, citing a government document and people familiar with the matter. The expansion comes as Amazon tests connected-home devices that could compete with those available from or being developed by Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL), two people familiar with the Lab's activities said, Reuters noted.
