| 14:56 EDT |  | AAPL, RIMM, ADBE | Stocks to end week little changed as positive data offset cliff fears The market is set to end the week little changed as better than expected economic data from the U.S. and overseas, along with the Fed's launch of a new round of quantitative easing, offset growing pessimism about the fiscal cliff... MACRO NEWS: In the U.S. the government reported that there were fewer new jobless claims than expected last week, while an index of industrial production for November easily beat expectations... HSBC reported that its Chinese purchasing managers' index for December reached a nine month high, while the euro zone's purchasing managers' index jumped to 47.3 this month from 46.5 in November... The Fed announced that it would extend its quantitative easing program into next year. The central bank also declared that it would keep interest rates exceptionally low at least until unemployment remains over 6.5% and inflation one to two years ahead is projected to be no more than 2.5%... COMPANY NEWS: Apple's (AAPL) stock is set to decline again this week, after UBS this morning reduced its price target on the shares to $700 from $780, citing, among other things, tougher handset competition and declining iPhone output... Adobe (ADBE) reported stronger than expected Q4 results last night, prompting a rally today... Also rallying this week was Research In Motion (RIMM), after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said that it would try out the company's upcoming Blackberry 10 smartphone. |
