Excluding special charges and fuel, mainline CASM was up 2.2% compared to the combined second quarter 2013, at 8.55 cents. Regional CASM excluding special charges and fuel was 15.80 cents, up 5.2 percent on a 0.4% decrease in regional ASMs versus combined second quarter 2013.

American Airlines has signed a codeshare agreement with Mexico City-based Interjet. American will codeshare on Interjet flights from Mexico City to five destinations Huatulco, Villahermosa, Merida, Tuxtla Gutierrez, and Oaxaca. American and Interjet will submit an application to the U.S. Department of Transportation for regulatory approval of the proposed codeshare cooperation.

Deutsche Bank expects 2015 to be an even stronger year than 2014 for Airline stocks and believes carriers will continue to "share their growing wealth with their stakeholders." Deutsche sees lower fuel prices and reduced interest expense providing benefits in 2015. The firm raised its price target for Allegiant Travel (ALGT) to $174 from $150, for Hawaiian Holdings (HA) to $27 from $19, for JetBlue (JBLU) to $21 from $17, for Southwest (LUV) to $55 from $46, for Spirit Airlines (SAVE) to $95 from $85, for United Continental (UAL) to $80 from $50, for American Airlines (AAL) to $67 from $54 and for Alaska Air (ALK) to $53 from $42.50. Deutsche keeps a $60 price target on shares of Delta Air Lines (DAL). The firm has a Buy rating on all name in the space save for Alaska Air, which it rates Sell.

The NASDAQ OMX Group (NDAQ) announced the results of the annual re-ranking of the NASDAQ-100 (NDX), which will become effective prior to market open on Monday, December 22. The following three companies will be added to the Index: American Airlines Group (AAL), Electronic Arts (EA) and Lam Research (LRCX). As a result of the revision in the index methodology allowing multiple share classes of index participants to be included in the index, the following three securities will also be added to the index: Comcast Corporation Class A Special (CMCSK), Twenty-First Century Fox Class B (FOX) and Liberty Global plc Class C (LBTYK). As a result of the re-ranking, the following three companies will be removed from the Index: Expedia (EXPE), F5 Networks (FFIV) and Maxim Integrated Products (MXIM).

Barclays upgraded United Continental (UAL) two notches to Overweight from Underweight citing the benefits from lower oil prices. The firm raised its price target for shares to $76 from $52. The airliner closed yesterday down $1.73 to $62.52. Barclays also upgraded American Airlines (AAL) this morning to Overweight. Its top picks in the space are Spirit Airlines (SAVE), then American and United, followed by Delta Air Lines (DAL) and Southwest (LUV). It now has Overweight ratings on all four major U.S. airlines.

American Airlines's total revenue passenger miles for the month were 16.2B, down 0.5% versus November 2013. Total capacity was 20.8B available seat miles, up 0.9% versus November 2013. Total passenger load factor was 77.7% for the month of November, down 1.1 points versus November 2013. The company expects its fourth quarter consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile to be approximately down one percent to up 1%. In addition, the company continues to expect its fourth quarter pretax margin excluding special charges to be approximately 10%-12%.
