Goldman upgraded the Airlines sector to Attractive from Neutral based on a more bullish views on the cycle and improving demand. The analyst believes consensus estimates underestimate pricing, which will boost multiples. As part of the sector change, the firm initiated American Airlines (AAL) with a Buy rating and upgraded JetBlue (JBLU) to Neutral from Sell.

United Airlines and Azul Brazilian Airlines announced a new strategic partnership in which United will acquire an approximate 5% stake in Azul, paving the way for the carriers to cooperate on a range of customer benefits including codesharing of flights, expanded connection opportunities on routes between the United States and Brazil, in addition to other points in North and South America, and joint loyalty-program participation. Through a wholly owned subsidiary, United will invest $100M for its economic stake in Azul, which includes one seat on Azul's board of directors. As a result of the partnership, United and Azul will expand their frequent flyer loyalty agreement.

Avis Budget (CAR) announced that it has entered into an expanded, new multi-year partnership marketing agreement with Southwest Airlines (LUV) which will enable the company to promote Avis Car Rental, Budget Car Rental and Payless Car Rental offers, products and services to Southwest customers. As part of the new agreement, Avis, Budget and Payless will have advertising placement on the Southwest Airlines website as well as merchandising placement throughout the airline reservation process. The car rental brands will also be featured on airline confirmation pages and pre-trip emails to customers.

While Southwest Airlines (LUV) and Delta Air Lines (DAL) await a resolution of their dispute in court, Southwest is allowing Delta to continue operating five daily flights between Dallas Love Field Airport and Atlanta, reported Reuters, citing a Delta spokeswoman. JetBlue announced plans to enhance service at Logan International Airport as part of its long-term commitment to serve both business and leisure travelers who have made the airline the city's top carrier. As part of the expansion, JetBlue will introduce Mint, its highly acclaimed take on premium travel, to Boston customers traveling to San Francisco and Los Angeles. JetBlue will also add Nashville as its 60thnon-stop destination from Boston and will increase service frequency on more than a dozen existing routes to U.S. and Caribbean destinations. Mint service will take off between Boston and San Francisco beginning in March 2016 with up to three daily roundtrips. Additionally, JetBlue will offer Mint seasonal service to the Caribbean beginning in March 2016 with a weekly Saturday roundtrip between Boston and Barbados.
